NEW LITERATURE PIECES (2007)

WHO WE ARE AND HOW YOU CAN HELP

The Somerville Divestment Project (SDP) is a grassroots
organization in Somerville, Massachusetts. Members of SDP
are everyday people: homemakers, students and
teachers; retirees and people juggling multiple jobs to make ends meet.
Our organization focuses on building a solid base of support for the human rights and self
determination of the Palestinian people. more
Whether it's a little or a lot, support SDP's work with a

Volunteer! One hour a month or one hour
a week , we have activities that may fit either.

T-shirt!
Write letters to the editor, contact your
town officials and let them know you support Palestinian human rights and divestment.
2007 CAMPAIGN AND ACTIVITIES

SDP is currently (2007) working in solidarity with organizations in two
neighboring towns: Cambridge Residents for
Human Rights (CRHR) and
Jamaica
Plain Residents for Human Rights (JPRHR). These grassroots organizations host
monthly public screenings of films dealing with Palestinian human rights, followed by Q &
A and discussion. CRHR and JPRHR are considering ballot question campaigns for the 2008
election.
SDP is a member of the Wheels of Justice Network
(WOJN) which is sponsoring a
semi-annual Wheels of Justice tour through the Southwest and Rocky Mountain area this fall
and is launching an "Outsourcing Palestine" campaign to assist Palestinian entrepreneurs
to advertise their technical services skills products internationally and thus to escape
the economic stranglehold of the Israeli occupation. SDPalso expects to campaign for one
or more ballotquestions in 2008.
We hope you will join us as we build citizens' power (and residents' power) for change.
SDP ON ATTACKS ON NON-COMBATANTS AND SELF DEFENSE

SDP opposes all attacks by anyone, anywhere, and at any time where unarmed
civilian casualties are clearly likely, whether the attacks are aggressive or
retaliatory. At the same time we support self-defense actions and armed
resistance against those who use physical violence to oppress people.
YOUR TAX DOLLARS AT WORK

Did you know Israel has made of Gaza a giant prison that is
under siege
where the Palestinians are being
starved?
The U.S. provides Israel with the money and military financing
that makes occupation and genocide possible. The U.S. gives Israel annually between $6 - 10 billion.
The Israeli annual national budget is about $40 billion. Because of access to American
technology and financial support:
- Israel is the world's fourth largest nuclear power.
- Israel is the 16th wealthiest nation in the world.
- Israel has the world's sixth largest military.
- Israel has become the third largest arms producer in the world.
- Israel has national health insurance.
- Israel has third best newborn survival rate (U.S.'s is second worst) of modern world.

"The American taxpayer contributes one third of its foreign aid budget to the 16th
wealthiest nation on the planet, with a population that represents .001% of the
world's population, supporting in the process the resettlement of thousands of
immigrants from foreign lands to Israel, a foreign country, where they can reside
in [subsidized] luxury town homes with lush grounds and pools, while our New Orleans residents,
the majority classified African-American and living below the poverty line, remain
scattered throughout the country unable to return to their homes." -
