December 2005: SDP Protests Anti-Divestment Candidate

State Representative candidate, Elizabeth Moroney, spoke at the College Ave Methodist Church as part of a Meeting of the Progressive Democrats of Somerville (PDS). According to her website, she "strongly opposes attempts to require Somerville or the Commonwealth to divest of Israeli (sic) Bonds. Somerville needs more local aid not a foreign policy."

Members of SDP organized in a short time to protest Ms. Moroney's statement on divestment. The peaceful protest took place in front of the Church as the attendees to the PDS meeting arrived. The PDS overwhelmingly endorsed Ms. Moroney's opponent on the State Rep. race, Alderman-at-Large Denise Provost, the only Alderman not to vote against a divestment resolution sponsored by SDP in the Fall of '04.
